Tallow is not for everyone...

October 5, 2026

We know, we know....this is an unpopular take, but hear us out....

When we’re out and about at markets and events, we usually get a few questions about beef tallow. While tallow offers a variety of benefits, folks with oily, clog‑prone, or fungal‑acne‑prone skin may react. Therefore, we prefer to use plant-based oils and ingredients as they:

  • are usually gentle on sensitive or problematic skin and can help reduce itchiness, inflammation, and redness.
  • are super hydrators! Plant-based oils mimic the skin's natural lipids to lock in moisture and repair a damaged moisture barrier.
  • are more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
  • have specific chemical and biological properties that offer a variety of benefits for your skin. For example, olive oil (a main ingredient in our soap) has anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, and antiaging properties because it contains antioxidants and healthy fatty acids.
  • are rich in antioxidants that supply natural vitamins (like C and E) andpolyphenols that fight free radicals and slow signs of aging.
  • are safe for your body and non-hormone disrupting.

If you use tallow and love it – awesome! But if it's not for you, you have options:

  • Our moisturizing facial oil contains all the beneficial oils you’d expect from a high quality, natural face oil, but is also contains carrot seed oil which is a natural form of retinol, which is beneficial for its anti-aging properties.
  • The Calendula Herbal Balm is a powerhouse for nourishing dry skin, specifically issues like eczema and rosacea. It can also be used for wound and burn healing and as a tattoo balm.

Stay hydrated, friends!
