Welcome to September – a time of excitement for kids as they return to school with their friends. However, we know this wasn’t always the case in Canada. There was a time when Indigenous children were forced from their homes and families to attend institutions that were intended to strip them of their language and culture. This happened until the last residential school closed in 1996. While this is a heartbreaking and devastating period in our nation’s history, we can find hope in the fact we are now living in a period of Truth and Reconciliation.
As we continue to walk the path of reconciliation, we are donating 5% of our gross sales during the month of September to the Orange Shirt Society (www.orangeshirtday.org).
Locally, please join the Sarnia Lambton Native Friendship Centre (233 Lochiel Street) for its annual Every Child Matters March on Wednesday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m.
